Sweet Carrot has closed its flagship brick-and-mortar restaurant to dine-in patrons, effective immediately.

The comfort food eatery made the jump from food truck to brick-and-mortar, opening in the former home of Rife’s Market at 1417 W. Fifth Ave. in November 2015.

While dine-in may disappear, it’s not the end for Sweet Carrot and its barbecue and mac & cheese focused menu.

“Without a clear end to the challenges of the pandemic and its aftermath I’ve decided that Sweet Carrot will close for dining and focus solely on catering for now,” CEO Angela Petro said in a social media post announcing the closure.

She shared more about what the establishment has experienced during the pandemic.

“As any restaurateur and small business owner will recognize, it has also been really hard the past 18 months,” Petro said. “As the owner of multiple hospitality businesses I can tell you that as bad as you *think* it is to hire and keep values aligned employees…it’s way worse. For many it’s been catastrophic.”

Petro is also the founder & CEO of catering service Together & Company which operates venues Highline Car House in the Brewery District and The Fives at The Reach on Goodale. Kittie’s, and its two bakeries in Bexley and German Village, also fall under the Petro umbrella.

“A few weeks ago, as I was trying to help the team plug a myriad of holes, I witnessed the anxiety, stress, selflessness and loyalty that the remaining team members were struggling with,” Petro shared. “I also watched as we failed some of our guests one minute then made people smile the next. It was heartbreaking and in that moment I knew it needed to end for the sake of the team and our supportive community of fans.”

Before the pandemic, Sweet Carrot also opened and closed two additional locations. Sweet Carrot Polaris opened in February 2018 with Dublin following in November 2018. Both closed in June 2019.

The post indicates that Sweet Carrot still plans to offer Thanksgiving dinner bundles and holiday entertaining options.
